Xavier Phelp is showing a work titled “Self Portrait Bis”. The piece possesses the look of dirt and decay often found in the artist’s images. An element of foreboding is influenced by the work of Stephen C. Wagner.

SOMARTS Cultural Center Main Gallery presents "Totally Unrealistic" featuring large abstract paintings and sculpture by Ralph Joachim, Cecil C. Childress, and Marilyn Kuksht. The exhibition showcases Joachim's geometric abstractions and Childress'abstract expressionistic works. Kuksht's massive steel sculptures provide a three dimentional bridge between these dramatically divergent painting styles. The exhibition offers a snapshot comparison of contemporary abstraction styles and entices the viewer to consider the concept, diversity, value, and meaning (or intentional lack there-of) in abstract art today. Opening Reception July 8, 6-9 p.m. Closing Reception July 30, 5-7 p.m. Free (415-863-1414 x110)
